Settling into Xinshan: A New Beginning
After months of preparation, I'm finally in Xinshan, Malaysia, ready to embark on a new venture. This is a solo journey to open up a new market, and I'm excited to share the experience. My team members will join me later, but for now, I'm the pioneer, facing the initial challenges of settling in.
The Journey Begins
I'm leaving home with two bags, ready to start this new chapter. The drive to Xinshan includes passing by various landmarks, including a gas station and an international school. Despite the unfamiliar surroundings, I'm optimistic about the future and the opportunities that await.
Why Xinshan?
Xinshan holds great potential. My company has a new project here, and I'll be spending a significant amount of time in the city. I'm eager to explore and share the unique experiences Malaysia has to offer. I consider my viewers as "spiritual shareholders" and I want to document this journey authentically.
The Initial Struggle: Finding Accommodation
One of the biggest challenges right now is finding a place to live. I hope to secure a rental today, but if not, I may have to resort to a short-term Airbnb. It's definitely proving to be more difficult than anticipated. Kuala Lumpur feels like home, but Xinshan offers a new adventure.
Exploring the Local Cuisine
Xinshan is known for its delicious and unique food. I am excited to try and recommend the local cuisine, especially the dishes that Singaporeans enjoy. I plan to share the house-hunting process and the rental options I find.
Daily Blogging and Authentic Content
I'm committed to being a daily blogger, increasing my video upload frequency. While the video quality might be reduced due to the pace, I want to provide an authentic record of my life and entrepreneurial journey in Xinshan. It's a new beginning, and I want to share every step of the way.
Arriving in Xinshan and Initial Impressions
After hours of driving, I've arrived in Xinshan. The high price toll on the side of the soft Buddha is free. This is my favourite! I'm grateful for this perk, especially compared to Kuala Lumpur. The immediate task is still finding a place to live, and I am seeking advice.
House Hunting: Location 1 - RTS View
I viewed two potential rental properties. The first had a view of the RTS (Rapid Transit System) construction. Being able to see the RTS being built daily is a good thing for me. The apartment was quiet and had a good view of Singapore. It was spacious, including a master bedroom. However, a storage room was locked and unavailable for my use.
House Hunting: Location 2 - KSL Residences
The second property was located at KSL. The KSL mall may not be particularly high-end, but it is very convenient for food, drinks, and access. There's even a supermarket downstairs. The area is lively and full of old-fashioned shops.
Distinguishing Locals and Culinary Delights at KSL
I observed many people at KSL. I'm told that the local people in Xinshan are easy to distinguish from Singaporeans, although I struggle to do so. Shops like opticians thrive as glasses are more expensive in Singapore. I enjoyed local food such as fried dough sticks, KFC, and McDonald's. The street across from KSL has many more specialty restaurants.
Settling on KSL Residences & Food Review
After considering the options, I decided to stay at KSL because it is a convenient location with everything I need. I visited "Ya Hua Guotiao" and "Pipa duck". I ordered Yun Teng Mian, a salted egg yolk pig's trotter and a zongzi. The water cost 3 ringgits. The Zongzi was 11 ringgits, and the Yun Teng Mian was 9 ringgits.
Exploring the Area & Transportation
The area around KSL is full of food options, from mango ice cream to spicy chicken. Buses are available to take people to CIQ (Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine) and I also learned how to recognize Singaporeans (they usually have suitcases).
The Struggle is Real: House Hunting Difficulties
Finding a house is proving to be more difficult than expected. The rental market seems tight, possibly due to affordability issues.
A Monastic House Viewing: A Unique Experience
I viewed another property where the owner is a monk. This meant that a monk would be potentially staying in another room. The apartment had a living room with air conditioning, a small balcony, and a view of the swimming pool.
Difficulties and Decisions: The Current Predicament
I'm currently facing a tricky situation. Finding a house is proving to be harder than anticipated. I have a lot of resources, but it's still challenging. The KSL location is appealing, but the available house is old and noisy. The sounds of motorbikes are very noticeable.
Seeking Advice: Food vs. Peace & Quiet
The dilemma is whether to prioritize convenience (food and drinks downstairs at KSL) or a better living experience (potential peace and quiet elsewhere). The office is located near Rainbow Square. The Twin Glasses Tower nearby might be an option, but it lacks immediate food and drink options. What should I choose?
Current State
I still haven't found a place to live, but I will continue searching.
