Starting a YouTube Journey: Overcoming Fear and Embracing the Unknown
Embarking on a YouTube journey can be daunting, especially when facing self-doubt and the fear of failure. Many experience "impostor syndrome," questioning their ability to create interesting and valuable content. The fear of judgment and the need for external validation can be paralyzing, discouraging potential creators before they even begin.
The Power of Creation
The key to overcoming this fear lies in shifting the focus from validation to creation. A helpful mantra is: "The fun is in the creation, not the validation." By embracing the process of creating content, we can move past the fear of negative feedback and focus on sharing our unique perspectives and passions. Don't let fear prevent you from pursuing your goals and achieving greatness.
A Global Perspective
Having lived in Cameroon, France, the United States, India, and Singapore, I've gained a diverse perspective on the world. This unique background has given me a wealth of experiences and insights to share. My content will explore:
-
Identity
-
Culture
-
Travel
-
Expatriation
-
The beauty of our similarities and differences
The goal is to offer content that is available in both French and English, so don't forget to turn on subtitles to deconstruct preconceived ideas and stereotypes.
Early Challenges and Setbacks
The path to launching this channel wasn't without its hurdles. There were several frustrating experiences along the way:
-
The Slow-Motion Vlog: The first attempt at a vlog, a suitcase packing video, resulted in 20 minutes of footage recorded in slow motion.
-
The Headless Event Video: Filming an event in Paris seemed successful, until the realization that the camera was positioned to cut off the top of my head throughout the entire video.
-
The Broken Camera Lens: After returning to Singapore, the lens on my camera broke just three weeks after purchasing it, leading to a moment of despair in the store.
These setbacks were discouraging, leading to questions about whether these were signs that I shouldn't pursue YouTube.
Overcoming Obstacles and Moving Forward
Despite these challenges, I persevered. The broken camera was unexpectedly fixed for free in just two days. This felt like a sign not to give up, but to push forward and overcome obstacles.
The key takeaway: "Don't give up, don't get discouraged, we must move forward and not despair."
