From Switzerland to Singapore: A Journey of Discovery and Happiness
Many people wonder why I moved to Singapore from Switzerland and whether I'll ever return. In this article, I'll explain why Singapore has become my happy place, how I enjoy a more luxurious life here compared to Switzerland, and my current thoughts on moving back.
The Adventure Begins
My journey to Singapore started about three years ago when my ex-boyfriend received a job offer. Having just finished my master's degree in political science and yearning to live in Asia, it felt like the perfect opportunity for an adventure. Despite never having visited before, I took the plunge and moved.
Falling in Love with Singapore
I instantly fell in love with Singapore. Although my relationship with my ex-boyfriend ended (for reasons unrelated to Singapore), I decided to stay and build my life here. It was challenging initially, particularly with visa issues, but I eventually established myself as a full-time content creator by starting my own company. For those interested in the employment pass process, I'll link a video with more information.
Life as a Content Creator in Singapore
Being a content creator for the past two years has been a dream come true. My days are filled with exploring Singapore, discovering new foods and activities, and occasionally traveling to nearby destinations. I also have the privilege of working with incredible brands, securing brand deals across Singapore and Southeast Asia, and collaborating with hotels in places like Hong Kong. My content primarily focuses on showcasing the beauty and unique experiences Singapore has to offer.
What Makes Singapore So Special?
The list of reasons why I love Singapore is extensive, but here are some of the highlights:
-
Weather: I adore the constant warm and humid climate. I am definitely a summer person and cannot stand the cold weather in Switzerland.
-
Convenience, Cleanliness, and Safety: Singapore offers unparalleled convenience, cleanliness, and safety. While Switzerland is safe, Singapore is on another level. My brother was amazed during his visit at how safe it is.
-
Multiculturalism: Singapore is a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities, creating a harmonious and welcoming environment. I've experienced no racism here, which is remarkable.
-
Language: The widespread use of English eliminates language barriers, making it easy to connect with people and feel at home.

Singapore vs. Switzerland: A Luxurious Lifestyle
Comparing Singapore and Switzerland, I find that I can enjoy a more luxurious lifestyle in Singapore at a lower cost. I can access everything that I can get in Switzerland, but it's cheaper and better.
-
Affordability: Manicures, taxis (Grab), and food options are significantly more affordable in Singapore. Eating out in Switzerland is expensive, with the cheapest meal costing around $30-$40. In Singapore, I can enjoy delicious chicken rice for just $5.
-
Convenience: 24-hour shops and services are readily available in Singapore, which is not the case in Switzerland.
-
Food: Hawker centers offer amazing food options for low prices.
While I miss my family and friends in Switzerland, I've found my happy place in Singapore.
Future Plans
Currently, I have no plans to move back to Switzerland. I am even selling my possessions in Zurich and terminating my apartment lease. I am settling here in Singapore. While obtaining Permanent Residency (PR) would be a dream, I'm currently focused on renewing my Employment Pass (EP). Life is unpredictable, and I'm embracing the present moment.
