Introduction
Good afternoon! I'm here with one of my favorite food vloggers, Amy (also known as Blundy in China). We're about to embark on a delicious journey through some of Singapore's best food spots.
First Stop: Hong Kong 88 Rose
Our first stop is Hong Kong 88 Rose, my favorite place for chashu and roast. Amy tried it and loved it! She said it's in the top three roast barbecue pork she's ever had. It was so juicy, fatty, and flavorful.
Next Stop: Titi
After that, we walked over to Titi, which is just a 5-minute walk away. There, Amy tried my favorite wanton noodle in Singapore. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the soup was rich and flavorful.
Evening at Chom Chom
In the evening, we headed to Chom Chom. This is a popular hawker center with a wide variety of food stalls. Amy was excited to try all the different dishes. She started with rojak, a Malay dish that combines fruits, vegetables, and a sweet prawn paste. She also tried some camasi, which is a type of fruit. She said the peanuts in the rojak gave it a great crunch.
Trying Different Dishes at Chom Chom
Next, Amy tried some yotiao and tofu. She said the yotiao had a slight oiliness, and the tofu was soft and flavorful. She also tried some bumit, which is a type of snack. She said it was quite sweet and savory, and the texture was perfect.
Thoughts on Local Hawker Centers
Amy was really impressed with the local hawker centers in Singapore. She said the price point was amazing, and you could get great food at affordable prices. She also loved that every store was selling something completely different, and there were so many things she wasn't familiar with. She said the food was loaded with flavor, and there were so many textures and ingredients to try.
Comparing Singaporean Street Food to Other Countries
I mentioned that I've been to a lot of different countries and tried a bunch of different street foods, and I think Singapore's street food is cleaner. Amy agreed, and she said she also appreciated the fact that the food was so competitive. She said if you go to Melbourne, you won't find a bad coffee, and if you go to Shunde in China, you won't find a bad meal. She said it's the same in Singapore, where the stores need to have a good clientele to survive.
Trying More Dishes at Chom Chom
We continued to try more dishes at Chom Chom. Amy tried some quail eggs, which she said were her favorite of the three dishes we tried. She also tried some stingray, which was cooked with sambal. She said it was really good, but she preferred it without the rice.
Oyster Omelette
Next, we tried some oyster omelette. I said I'm not a fan of the Taiwan version of oyster omelette, but I think Singapore's version is perfect. Amy said she's had a Fujian-style oyster omelette before, and she thinks she might like it. She said the sauce is really important, and she liked the vinegar sauce that came with the omelette.
Stingray with Rice
We also tried some stingray with rice. Amy said she liked the stingray, but she preferred it without the rice. She said the rice diluted the flavor, and she liked the stingray on its own.
Trying Different Noodles
After that, we tried some different noodles. Amy tried some prawn noodles, which she said were really good. She also tried some mee siam, which she said was a little bit above average. She said the noodles were great, and she liked that they were more on the wet side.
Backstory of Amy's Channel
We also talked about Amy's backstory and how she ended up in China. She said she originally came to China as an exchange student in 2014, and then she came back to China a few years later to study. She said she started making videos on Bilibili, and her first videos were some of the cringiest content she's ever made. She said she was a fitness vlogger at first, but then she decided to switch to food vlogging.
Barbecue Chicken Wings
Next, we tried some barbecue chicken wings. Amy said they were really good, and she liked that they were cooked over charcoal. She said everything cooked over charcoal is just amazing.
Indian Muslim Food
After that, we headed to an Indian Muslim stall. Amy had never eaten a prata before, so she was excited to try it. She said it looked amazing, and she liked that it was oily and greasy. She also tried some fata, which is a type of curry. She said it reminded her of a taco in Beijing, which is basically like a little bit salty, crispy, and then it's got the sugar on it.
Trying Different Types of Prata
We also tried some different types of prata. Amy tried the plain prata first, and then she tried the egg prata. She said the egg prata was really good, and she liked that it was pillowy and soft. She also tried some curry with the prata, and she said it was really good.
Roy John
Next, we tried some Roy John. Amy said it looked amazing, and she liked that it had a bunch of different ingredients in it. She said the bread was toasty, and the omelette with meat in the middle was really good. She also liked the sweet chili mayonnaise on top.
Bak Kut Teh
Finally, we headed to one of my favorite bak kut teh stores, Founders. Amy had never tried bak kut teh before, so she was excited to try it. She said it was really good, and she liked that it was super peppery. She also tried some of the pork ribs, which were really tender and flavorful.
Thoughts on Singapore's Food Scene
Overall, Amy was really impressed with Singapore's food scene. She said it's a melting pot of different cultures and cuisines, and there's so much variety to try. She said she would like to come back to Singapore for a longer period of time to explore more of the food.
