Dreamgo TV: Malaysia and Singapore Adventure
Introduction
Welcome to Dreamgo TV! Today, we're taking you on a journey to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Singapore. Despite being in preparation for a competition, this trip was planned months ago.
Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur
Arrival and Initial Hiccups
We flew with Starlux Airlines. After arriving in Malaysia, there was a bit of a mishap, with some promotional material having a typo. However, everyone was in good spirits and ready to explore.
Bak Kut Teh Experience
Our first culinary stop was for bak kut teh, a popular herbal soup. We tried both the soup version and a dry version. The dry version, seasoned with a strong fish sauce, was a new experience. While unique, it was divisive – some loved the intense flavor, while others found it overpowering.
Batu Caves Exploration
Next, we visited Batu Caves, a massive and impressive site. The climb up the stairs was challenging, especially in the heat. The caves themselves were filled with bats and monkeys, creating a unique atmosphere.
Durian Tasting at Durian King
No trip to Malaysia is complete without trying durian, the notoriously pungent fruit. We went to Durian King and even had a private "Musang King" room. We sampled the Musang King variety, known for its creamy texture, sweet taste with a hint of bitterness, and complex flavor profile. It's an acquired taste, but many appreciate its unique qualities.
Seafood Feast at Restoran Fatty Crab (Hai Ka Lok)
For dinner, we dined at Restoran Fatty Crab (Hai Ka Lok), a restaurant specializing in seafood, and was apparently a Michelin recommended restaurant. The salted egg yolk crab was a highlight, featuring a rich and savory flavor. The restaurant is a popular spot, requiring early arrival to avoid long waits.
Singapore
Crossing Over and Friendly Wager
After Malaysia, we headed to Singapore, known as one of the most expensive countries in Asia. A lighthearted wager was made to determine who would pay for a round of expensive Mojitos.
Late-Night Xiang Cuisine
In Singapore, we enjoyed a late-night meal at a Chinese restaurant specializing in Xiang cuisine, recommended by a friend.
Lei Cha Pidan (Thunder Tea Century Egg)
We tried a dish called lei cha pidan, made with preserved duck egg and chili. While initially hesitant due to its unusual appearance, we found it surprisingly delicious. The dish is meant to be mixed and eaten with rice.
The Kitchen at Sea Tripod
Finally, for our last dinner, we were taken behind the scenes at a local seafood restaurant, where we sampled various dishes.
Claypot Pork Liver
One dish, a claypot pork liver, has been prepared for 55 years using a unique blend of ginger, scallions, oyster sauce, soy sauce, and Chinese rice wine.
Coffee Ribs and Moonlight Hor Fun
We sampled the coffee ribs, marinated with a mix of Chinese spices, coffee essence, honey, and applesauce. We also enjoyed the "Moonlight Hor Fun," a dry fried rice noodle dish with an egg yolk mixed in for flavor.
Late Night Meal in Taiwan
After Singapore, we headed back to Taiwan for a final meal.
Ruichun Taiwanese Restaurant
Our last stop was a late-night visit to Ruichun, a popular local eatery. We tried various dishes, including fried rice, scallion pancakes, wontons, and dan dan noodles. The fried rice was particularly well-received for its distinct grains and firm texture.
Conclusion
With that, our Malaysian and Singaporean adventure comes to an end. After enjoying a final meal, we're heading back to Taiwan to refocus and prepare for the upcoming competition. Thanks for watching Dreamgo TV!
