Introduction
Hello everyone, I'm Jessie. Welcome back to our channel. With over 10 years of experience in the investment industry, I've witnessed firsthand how technology has transformed the financial sector and the global workplace. Today, we'll address a pressing concern: why is everyone hiring now, and in the age of AI, what jobs will remain irreplaceable in the future? This video aims to analyze the global workplace situation based on past experience and the latest information from friends, helping you understand career directions for the next few decades.
The Current Hiring Landscape
Last week, Intel hired 20% of its employees. Amazon, a seemingly stable company, along with major banks in the financial sector, is also in the hiring process. Amazon's CEO, Andy Jassy, has publicly stated that the company will become more AI-automated and may fire more employees, especially those in the early to mid-to-late stages. Shopify, a well-known technology agency, has a policy where employees must prove why AI can't do a job and what additional value they can bring before the company will hire more staff. This indicates a shift from the previous economic cycle of layoffs during downturns to a restructuring phase where many positions no longer require as many people.
Examples of Jobs Affected by AI
-
Lawyer in the UK: A friend who has been a lawyer for over 10 years lost his job because the entire law firm shut down. AI has significantly impacted the legal industry by providing free and high-quality legal inquiries and document writing services, reducing the firm's business volume.
-
PwC Employee: Another friend at PwC, at the SA2 (Senior Associate Level 2) position, was notified of layoffs. PwC, known for job security, is now reducing its workforce as auditing tasks that previously required ten people can now be done by three. This is due to increased efficiency through AI and other technologies.
Five Trends Shaping the Future
- Technological Subversion: AI, robots, and automation are replacing a large number of jobs. AI inquiries in 2024 are 50 times higher than in 2023, indicating the rapid pace of technological advancement.
- Geopolitical Tension: From Sino-US confrontation to trade decoupling and the Middle East situation, geopolitical tensions are affecting company decisions. Globalization as we knew it may no longer exist, and talent flow will be impacted. Companies are also reorganizing their factories to maintain competitiveness.
- Change in Population Structure: In economically developed countries, the birth rate is declining, leading to an aging society. This trend is pushing new industries such as nursing. In contrast, economically underdeveloped regions with high birth rates are promoting industries like early education.
- Uncertainty of the Economy: The global economy is in a downward cycle with high inflation and a slowdown in economic growth. Companies are relying more on AI to improve work efficiency, and this trend may continue for a long time.
- Green Transformation: Green energy and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) were hot topics a few years ago. Although some countries have slowed down due to geopolitical changes, the long-term trend towards green transformation is inevitable. The rise of AI, which requires a lot of electricity, is driving demand for new energy sources like nuclear, wind, and solar power.
Jobs Being Replaced by AI
- Basic Data Processing Analysis: Tasks like putting data into Excel, creating pivot tables, and generating analysis charts can now be done instantly and more accurately by AI.
- Administrative Secretary: Basic admin tasks such as calculating project costs and doing simple project management and administrative work are being replaced by software automation. Even personal secretaries who manage schedules can be replaced by automated software.
- Traditional White-Collar Jobs: Consultants, lawyers, and accountants are at risk as AI can provide professional advice that is better, more comprehensive, and unbiased. The information industry, which often relies on copy-paste and PPT creation, is also being affected as AI can generate these quickly.
- Bank Tellers: Most simple banking operations like deposits and financial product purchases are now done online, reducing the need for bank tellers. Traditional banks are shrinking and closing branches.
High-Paying Jobs Not Easily Replaced by AI
- AI Prompt Engineer: This new position involves studying how to communicate effectively with AI models like ChatGPT and MidJourney to get the most ideal results. Skills required include strong English writing, familiarity with AI platforms, logical thinking, and programming knowledge (e.g., Python).
- AI Ethics Specialist: As AI plays a crucial role in important fields like medicine, law, and education, ethical review is necessary. These specialists assess AI systems for bias, data accuracy, privacy invasion, and social risks. A background in compliance, law, or sociology, along with knowledge of AI principles and application scenarios, is beneficial.
- Digital Twin Designer: This job involves creating digital duplicates of real-world objects, such as buildings, factories, or people, in the virtual world. Skills needed include 3D modeling tools (e.g., Blender, Unity, Unreal), basic Internet knowledge, and software visualization ability.
- Psychologist: While AI can simulate conversations and offer comfort, it cannot truly understand human emotions. Real-life psychologists are still needed to provide in-depth emotional support.
- Elderly Caregiver and Rehabilitation Therapist: These jobs require physical labor and the ability to observe and respond to humanized reactions, which robots cannot replace in the short term.
- Aging Reformed Designer: With the growth of the pension industry, there is a need for designers to modernize public spaces, residential areas, and communities with features like wireless channels, intelligent sensor devices, and fall-proof alarm systems.
- Personal Brand Builder and KOL: Creating a personal brand based on personality charm, unique experiences, and values is a way to be irreplaceable in the future.
- Financial Technology Engineer: As banks become more digital, there is a high demand for engineers who can develop and maintain systems for face-washing certification, ID verification, money laundering detection, and counterfeiting prevention. Familiarity with AI and complex financial models is highly valued.
Using AI Tools to Improve Efficiency
I've recently started using WPS Office, which has replaced Word for me. WPS is a global software with 600 million users in over 220 countries. It has a small size (only 250+ megabytes), fast operation, and core functions that are forever free. It integrates with Office documents, has AWS privacy and security certification, and is available on multiple platforms for seamless synchronization. It also has useful AI templates for tasks like PPT creation.
Conclusion
We are in a historical era where the AI wave is unstoppable. Instead of resisting, we should recognize the situation and quickly pivot. We need to learn how to use AI to increase work efficiency, transform ourselves into irreplaceable professionals, and create multiple income streams. In the future, using AI will be as common as typing on a computer. Share your thoughts in the comments section about how your industry is affected by AI and what you're doing to prepare for the future. That's it for today. Bye!
