Salaryman Tokyo

Welcome to Life as a Salaryman in Tokyo 🏢🇯🇵 Hi, I’m a salaryman working for a black company in Tokyo—a corporate culture many might call "modern slavery" or “Shachiku”. What is “Shachiku”? The term "shachiku" (社畜) is a combination of “sha" (company) and “chiku" (livestock). It describes workers who are overworked, underpaid, and exploited by their employers yet remain blindly loyal. This sarcastic term reflects the harsh reality of Japan's corporate world, especially in the so-called black companies (ブラック企業). In Japan, many employees prioritize their company over their personal lives, working from early morning until midnight. They rarely protest or strike, fearing it might inconvenience others—a reflection of Japan's strong team-player culture. Unfortunately, this mindset contributes to stagnant wages and a lack of workplace reform. Through this channel, I’ll share my experiences and give you an inside look at the realities of Japan’s work environment.
